7” pine heart tea scoop
After growing for over 100 years, dying, and rotting on the forest floor for another century, all that is left behind are resin filled pine hearts. They are formed when pine trees reinforce the heart wood fibers where branches attach to the trunk.
I walk a property in GA to collect these pieces of natural sculpture. I carefully split them in half, hollow out the center with gouges, and painstakingly sand them up to a polish. I then use a food safe finish to seal the wood so they will last for another lifetime in use with tea.
